Tips On Home Weddings
As they say, there is no place like home. Other venues may be charming, but they cannot beat your own home for special meaning. Brides love to have weddings at home for this reason. When planning a wedding at home, you will have more work to do than if you used a standard wedding venue. This guide will show you how to plan your dream wedding at home.
When you are planning to host your wedding at your own house (or your parents' home), the most important thing to figure out is how many guests you can realistically accommodate. Do you want to have all of the festivities inside your home, or is there room in the backyard to fit a tent and tables? Don't guess about the tent size your yard can accomodate - get a professional recommendation. Professionals are best equipped to determine what size tent your yard can accommodate. Also keep in mind that you may need a separate catering tent, a portable restroom trailer, and space for generators.
You can focus on the style of your celebration once you have worked out the number of people you can accomodate. It can seem odd to have a small wedding which is very formal, although you can go as grand as you like for a large wedding. If you are having a tented reception for 250 guests, by all means choose a grand silk ballgown with sparkling crystal bridal jewelry. When your wedding is formal, you can have as grand a gown and wedding jewelry as you like; for an intimate wedding, dial it down a bit.
Don't neglect the dull but important practical stuff. It is important to find out if your town requires any sort of permit for a large gathering, what the restrictions are about noise (especially important information for your band or d.j.), and what the laws are about parking. Extra insurance is also an excellent idea to cover things like property damage, theft, and personal injury. If street parking is inadequate in your neighborhood, your best bet may be to hire a shuttle van to transport your wedding guests between a central location like a hotel and your home. Consider a valet parking service as another option to deal with extra cars.
Neighbors are an important part of the equation! It is courteous to give advance notice about your wedding. The smartest move is to invite them to attend the wedding! Surely your neighbors will want to come admire you in your gorgeous bridal gown and fabulous wedding jewelry while sipping a glass of fine champagne. If you make your neighbors feel like a part of the festivities, they might even offer to put up a few of your bridesmaids in their guest room.
Consider how hard you want to work to remake your house. A very low key wedding might not need more than some new candles and a wreath for the front door. Other families, though, go all out with repainting the exterior of the house, landscaping, and refurbishing the interior of the home. The additional house maintence costs which are unique to a home wedding are as much a part of the budget as the usual catering, music, and wedding jewelry for the bride.

Do you know of any good & reasonably priced places or people who do wedding gown alterations in Iowa?
I'm looking for a place in East Central Iowa (around the Cedar Rapids area) that does wedding gown alterations. I would like a place that is decent priced. Also I bought my wedding gown from a shop that is not from around here, so taking it there is not an option. If you know of any shops please let me know. Thanks! By the way I'm getting married in July.
Join theknot.com and ask this on their local wedding board. Chances are, someone will know someone who does alterations.
Good luck.

How much does it cost to get a Wedding gown Cleaned and Pressed?
Im in Central Texas (Austin) and I bought a beautiful used wedding gown, but it has a couple spots and of course under the train needs to be cleaned. Im working on a VERY tight budget...Have any suggetions? Know a good (Inexpensive) Cleaner? Please Help...Im getting married in April! Only 3 months to go!!
I have worked in bridal salons. Your best bet is to go to a salon and ask them. They may recommend the cleaning and preservation company the store is affiliated with. Most dry cleaners will clean wedding gowns (price around here is $150) but the results vary greatly. A dry cleaner in the city nearby was recently sued for ruining a wedding gown.
